I have Sirius in the car and luv it for traveling to Barrington or Appleton most weekends to see grand kids. I mostly enjoy the wide variety of music that is available without commercials.
Recently I was stuck on the 70s channel and heard several songs played back to back.
“Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes) Edison Lighthouse
“United We Stand” Brotherhood of Man
“My Baby Loves Lovin” White Plains
“Gimme Dat Ding” The Pipkins
“Beach Baby” First Class
Why were these five songs played in succession?
It turns out the lead singer on ALL of these songs was Tony Burrows, b. 1942 in England.
The first four songs were recorded within a 9 month period in 1970- by four different bands. Tony was the lead singer on all of them! The last song was a big hit recorded in 1974 with Tony out front yet again.
Tony was outsourcing his talent even wider in the early 70s. Ya know that background voice we love on Elton John’s “Levon” (1971) and “Tiny Dancer” (1972) – yep, it’s Tony.
