Bryston’s Trim T10 towers go about their business with a more creative design brief than 99.9% of what our industry offers. Let’s take a look at the MO behind Bryston’s T10 Series and discuss whether its a good fit for YOU. They’re made in Canada, in Bryston’s own house, with a 20 year warranty.
Tower
At five feet tall Trim T10 is definitely a significant tower in your music room. That’s not an accident. Trim T10 is designed to purvey a LIFE-SIZED image in your room. The sonic height and depth of field that comes with this design is something to behold. A fire hydrant of stamped drivers can’t play music like the exquisite Trim T10s. All the Bryston T10s are based on delivering a realistic spatial presentation.
You can appreciate Bryston’s size on music as simple as singer songwriters. Please audition the T10s on any singer with guitar or piano. You’ll hear a depiction of the event you haven’t heard before.
BAM
All Bryston T10 models feature the BAM (Bryston Audio Module) center chamber. The BAM has two tweeters in the center, with midrange drivers above and below the tweets. BAM is its own separate cabinet to provide a rock solid base of operations for these drivers. The face of the BAM is reinforced with a machined aluminum plate. It makes the cabinet more rigid than wood alone and helps specify the dispersion of the four drivers.
You can listen to any of the Brystons with BAM technology and appreciate their outstanding resolution and sheer size of musical presentation.
Bass Modules
Above and below the BAM, Bryston employs two more modules. With Trim T10, each of these modules features their 6.5” cast frame, Pure Aluminum woofers. Because the woofers have dedicated chambers, Bryston can tune the frequency of these enclosures precisely as they see fit.
The bass modules are tuned to be taut and muscular. They’re absolutely NOT FAT!
You might think a speaker of this height would be HEAVY in the bass. They’re not. Bryston maintains definition with Trim T10. It isn’t muddy or plodding.
By running woofer modules above and below the BAM, Bryston is exciting bass response in four locations in your room. This breaks up standing waves. You get the impact of multiple drivers but their response is more tonally clear than just running them low in one chamber. There is significantly more size and cost to this effort, but you’ll hear that it pays off in a more taut and tuneful sonic signature.
Performance
The first and most impressive characteristic of Trim T10 is its mid band transparency. You look at this tall-ish tower and expect it to throw medicine balls around your living room. While it has solid, tight bass, its foremost strength is its tall, unboxy, highly resolving panorama of sound.
As we analyze the bass, it’s controlled. If you appreciate a stand up bass or the lower register of a piano without a hint of being murky, Trim T10 is a perfect fit. As a piano fan first and foremost, I luv that Trim T10 doesn’t muddle the lower register.
LVB was among the first composers to have a piano that was more than a glorified harpsichord. He wrote for the lower register of the instrument like nobody before him. Have a listen to piano sonata #8 (Op13). The insightful construction of the bass requires a speaker that won’t turn LVB’s brilliance into sludge. Trim T10 is an ideal companion.
The same holds true for transient attacks on a great drum kit. Trim T10 won’t occlude sage musicianship with bloat. Most speakers are built to make your room rumble instead of reveal the nuances of the drummer’s choices of snare, mounted toms & floor tom. A creative drummer can bring a host of colors to his craft instead of just hammering away. Trim T10 is fast and controlled, not obfuscating.
Aesthetics
I appreciate the clean lines of Trim T10. Bryston doesn’t use grills because the T10 Series is all about transparency. Further, Bryston offers a myriad of lovely wood finishes. With its unfettered fascia, you can appreciate the quality of Bryston’s finish work. You can order T10s with, or without the Bryston logo at the base of the speaker. The outriggers are part of the package which help craft the space and image of your music.
Listening Room
Of course Trim T10s sound good in a big room. The secret weapon of Trim T10 is that it will also sound GREAT in a small to mid sized room!
The tower is tall to cast a big, deep stage. But Trim T10 isn’t tubby and can literally create magic in a small to mid sized space.
If your wife has banished you to a smaller room than the Great Room, you won’t have to go kicking and screaming. Odds are she won’t care WHAT you do, so long as it doesn’t take over her living room. Trim T10 will give you thrilling musical perspective.
