Jim Winey created Magnepan speaker technology in his basement in 1968. He opened shop in White Bear Lake, Minnesota in 1969. The technology began with an extremely thin, low mass Mylar diaphragm stretched across an open frame. Thin wires were glued to the Mylar. Signal was fed into the wires, which were induced to move by their proximity to bar magnets.

In 2010 Magnepan technology took a big jump from the above “Magneplanar” technology to “Quasi Ribbon” technology. Starting in the SEVEN series, the metal voice coil was improved to wide strips of foil instead of skinny “piano wire.” Everything about Magnepan speakers improved substantially.

Today all of the models below utilize the QUASI RIBBON technology! Grill material is available in black, off white or gray. Sides can be aluminum (silver or black), or wood (oak, cherry, black oak).

LRS+ $1000 Per Pair

(48h, 14.5w, 1.2d)

LRS+ gives you a small taste of the Magnepan sound. It doesn’t go real deep. It doesn’t go real loud. But it gives Maggie detail in the middle. Magnepan insists its matching stands for $289 per pair are required to get the most out of LRS+.

Magnepan MG .7

MG .7 $2000 Per Pair

(54.25h, 15.25w, 1.25d)

MG .7 is a steal. It gives you a much bigger slice of Magnepan performance than LRS+. It is well worth the grand for a bigger presentation at all frequencies- which of course includes the bass!

Magnepan MG1.7

MG 1.7i $3000 Per Pair

(65h, 19w, 2d)

MG 1.7i has more extension on top and bottom than .7. 1.7i has a super tweeter. .7 does not. If you want wider range and a larger image, it’s not much more for 1.7i.

MG 2.7i Speakers, $6250 Per Pair With Oval Bases

(72h, 22w, 2d)

MG 2.7i’s are hot off the presses- and they’re SPECTACULAR!

MG 2.7i is now Maggie’s least expensive speaker to offer its TRUE RIBBON tweeter, comprised purely of aluminum, controlled by Maggie’s push/pull magnet array.

The bass/mid section uses Maggie’s Quasi design- which consists of foil strips adhered to a Mylar substrate. It’s fantastic- but not quite as lythe and breathy as Mag’s True Ribbon technology.

In MG 2.7i we have the same SOTA high end of 3.7i, with a tad less bass, for a third less money.

The price is $6000 with traditional Maggie metal feet. Please spend $6250 to get the much more stable and appealing oval bases.

Megnepan MG 3.7i

MG 3.7i $9000 Per Pair

(71h, 24w, 1.7d)

MG 3.7i is Maggie’s full figured speaker with a true ribbon tweeter- the diaphragm is aluminum, not aluminum bonded to Mylar. Consequently 3.7i pushes the state of the art in high frequency response info and of course has bigger bloom in the bass.

MG 20.7 $22,000 Per Pair

(79h, 29w,2.1d)

MG 20.7 is one of the best speakers out there PERIOD. It utilizes the true ribbon tweeter. It has a larger panel than its little brothers and features dual opposing magnet control. By having magnets on both sides of the Mylar panel the control goes to vice grip definition.
