To get more background on Bryston speakers please read the yellow tab at the bottom of our home page titled, Bryston Speakers.
The background story and speaker technology is described there. This entry is specific to the Tiny A. The warranty on all Bryston speakers is 20 years!
Tiny A: Hot Off The Presses!
Up until now, Bryston has only made 3-way speakers. They’re all robust in the bass, detailed in the middle and smooth on top. I GET why Bryston prefers 3-ways. If you can afford the price and space of Mini A over Tiny A, by all means, buy the Mini to benefit from all of its advantages.
Yet, not everyone has the space and money to swing Mini A, especially in room number two that’s likely to be an office or den. That’s why I have been crying like a baby to Bryston to introduce a great small speaker for about a grand. I’m happy to report, Tiny A has hit the market.
We no longer have to cede this business to China.
I’m very happy with Tiny A and will brag it up in a minute. In addition to its refined sound quality, I’m also thrilled that it is made in Bryston’s own factory in Canada and carries Bryston’s full 20 year warranty!
Virtually every other speaker you’ll see south of $3k, much less $1k, is something pumped out of a production house from the far east. Invariably those speakers sound boxier and harsher. Tiny A will please a more sophisticated palate- and does so at a modest price point.
Tiny A is exactly what you would expect from Bryston. It is not lesser in quality than Mini A. It is just smaller.
Tiny A runs the same 6.5” Cast Frame, Anodized Aluminum driver that Mini A does. Please keep in mind, the speakers made on the other side of the globe use light weight, stamped frame drivers. Tiny A employs this 6.5 as a bass/mid driver instead of a pure woofer. The Titanium tweeter is the same as the rest of the Bryston line. Thus Tiny A has the Steinway Smooth timbre of its bigger brothers.
The first surprise in listening to Tiny A in a small room is that its bass is closer to Mini A than you would have guessed. THAT, is a pleasant surprise. When you move into a larger room, of course Mini A can flex its muscles.
Given how it’s built, it ISN’T a surprise that Tiny A has the same high freq smoothness and DNA of Mini A and the other Bryston speakers. This smooth top end is a joy to live with and separates Tiny A from a world full of mass production, which features a more spitty and thin sounding result.
Please don’t miss that Tiny A is also TOUGH. You’ll find any number of mini’s from China, and even England, are easy to blow. By the time you get the volume up to where you’re having a good time, you’re on the cusp of tweeter destruction. And good luck getting the Chinese or English to eat a tweeter – even under warranty!
I’m delighted to tell you that Tiny A hits its design brief right on the noggin. It sounds full and smooth. It will get out muscled by its bigger brothers if you have a larger room and want more HEFT to your music. That, is no indictment on Tiny A- given its size and price.
