Atoll’s IN100 is the first integrated in the family to use a PAIR of the outstanding Spain built 340VA transformers. While IN50 and IN80 are dual mono, they do so from a single transformer.
IN100 is full dual mono from the transformers on. IN100 runs four 6800uF filter caps. With the dual transformers and sizable power supply caps, IN100 has enough power to drive almost any speakers very well. The $400 price difference from IN80 doubles your transformer hardware- always a plus.
Musically, where IN100 will SLAY ya, is in its FORMIDABLE bass response. There are zillions of affordable amps that sound “clean.” IN100, does in fact, sound clear and detailed. But what differentiates it from its competition is its muscular character with speakers that demand it.
For example, Magnepan speakers are knocked for having lean bass. To be fair, with a garden variety amp, this is true. To bring the bass out of Mags that they’re capable of, requires a prodigious amp.
If you can swing a Bryston integrated for $8500, that’s perfect. But just in case you don’t have Bryston money lying around, I’m happy to tell you that you can get within spitting distance for just over two grand. Yup.
That’s right. Atoll’s IN100 has such weight and control that Pans sound much more balanced, warm and impactful, than you could possibly believe for the price point.
I’ll venture to say, that if you have any Pans or full range towers that you’re driving with a Chinese built amp, you haven’t remotely heard what they can do. The excitement with Atoll, is that you can get in the same echelon as Bryston, Mac and the heavy hitters, for a much more reasonable price tag.
I have also run IN100 with what we might infer would be disproportionately expensive speakers. Running the 100 with Maggie 2.7i, Bryston Middles and the Atohm GT-2s, is no miss match. In fact, spending heavier on speakers makes good sense, given how good the Atoll integrateds are. I mention IN100 especially, because at just over $2k, it can perform alarmingly close to uber expensive separates.
As you’ll see line wide with Atoll, a modest step up in price buys you a good chunk more of hardware. If you can swing $2100, IN100 Sig will have deeper bass and bigger dynamics than its smaller brothers.
With Atoll, you always get a nice return on your extra investment.
