Most subs are designed to hit hard and rumble your house. The majority are made in China and do just that. Their amps famously die within a few years and… there ya sit, having to buy a new one because the price of a replacement or repaired amp is foolishly expensive given its 90 day warranty.

VR 1X is made for music lovers, not theater boomers. VR 1X adds muscle down low without intruding into the taut nature of your R&L speakers.

To accomplish this task, designer Thierry Comte has chosen to use a 9.1” metal alloy, cast frame subwoofer driver of his own construction. It is employed in a down ported enclosure of specifically tuned frequency. The cabinet itself isn’t a rectangle. It is contoured and various points to attain better rigidity that a standard box.

Thierry feels that going any larger with the driver imparts a murky character to the music. He has technology to get the most out of this driver besides the cabinet details.

Atohm X-Guard technology controls the woofer’s excursion while it can achieve travel of up to a full inch.

Atohm U-Guard technology controls its 250w amplifier’s distortion characteristics in a soft clipping fashion.

Thierry feels it is better to ask more of a mid sized woofer with his additional technology, vs trying to control a larger flapping driver where linearity can’t be governed adequately.

If you want to rumble, look elsewhere. If you’re looking for a sub to augment your fabulous wing speakers like Atohm Sirocco 1.24s or 2.24s for example, you’ll hit the nail on the head. The other sub $2k subs out there are rumbly/tumbly- not good for cellos and pianos.
