North America And Europe

Why would you buy high end speakers made in China? Why would you buy high end electronics made in China? I’m not saying they’re no good. I am saying we need to support gear that’s made in North America or Europe. Let’s support companies that make their own gear, in their own houses, with better warranties. By the way, the N American and…

The Flavor Of Atoll

You can read the intricacies of Atoll Electronique design to learn how they’re built differently and BETTER, than virtually everything else in their price ranges here. THIS discussion goes straight to the SOUND and how the construction pays off for you. The fact is, there are a lot of good speakers out there. We want the best N America and Europe have…

ATOHM G3 Gets Rave!

In my 40 years as an avid audiophile, I have seen about everything there is regarding speaker design. From weirdly shaped enclosures that try to break the laws of physics that govern the rest of the speaker-designing community to simple one-driver designs that take on the full range of musical frequencies with one driver. All speaker designers take different approaches to yield…

Enough Bryston?

Is this a demo room or what…?! Here we have our Norway Distributers Bryston demo system! On demo are the Bryston Model T10 Main speakers with the Model TS10 Sub Towers using the Bryston BAX-1 Electronic crossover, BR-20 Preamp and multiple Bryston amplifiers. The smaller speakers adjacent to the large speakers are the new Bryston Tiny T10’s…

Isotek Elektra Mains Conditioner $2000

Isotek introduced mains conditioners about a decade ago that flat out IMPROVED our sound quality. For the first time we heard that a mains conditioner could not only PROTECT, but could actually IMPROVE our sound. We learned that if you DON’T have such a conditioner in your system, you’re losing clarity you can’t get back later in the chain. For those of…

ABCs

What’s the best way to build a fine music system? We can help you. I was scouring my hi-fi mags the other day. While I enjoy reading about nice audio gear, these guys have gotten flippin’ RIDICULOUS. The disproportionate attention paid to absurdly priced gear is flat out insulting. They regularly review preamps and power amps for $25-100k. They write routinely about…

Our Mix: Stand Mount Speakers

I view running Audio Emporium like being the GM of a baseball team. We have categories to fill and I try very hard to “beat” other teams with our sage selection, or MIX. When evaluating STAND MOUNT speakers, there are specific considerations. It’s a fun challenge. Let’s dive in! I’m not interested in what’s built in China. Screw ‘em. During Covid, N…

Atoll 200s

Atoll of France makes my favorite affordable integrated amps and separates. They make them in France, not China, with a three year warranty! This entry is to highlight two class shattering components, the Atoll PR200 preamp and AM200 power amp. I’ll also bring in a matching CD player with accessible DAC to round out the system package. These components are built to…

Towers Of Power

Bryston makes our favorite tower speakers. They’re ESPECIALLY SOLID at the popular price points of $2-5k per pair. They’re made in Canada, not China. They have a 20 year warranty. Nobody else is close. Not China! There are many well known brands that make towers in this price range. In the price range of $2-5k, almost everything is made in China, even…

A Case For CDs

Most of our friends and family turn on political TV at night and get angry. Fortunately WE in the audio hobby, have music in our lives and THAT can be the evening’s entertainment. Last night I wanted to hear something soul searching and beautiful. In my world, that has to be acoustic. Further, I prefer music that is a bit sparse so…

Bryston BI200 Rave

The Bryston Bi-200 integrated amp arrived late yesterday. Plugged in and playing! I cannot begin to tell you how large the grin is on my face. This has replaced a very capable 50-watt per side amp. The difference in terms of driving my speakers is staggering, especially at lower volume. It’s like the house has come to life for the very first time! I have been covering the industry for 25 years and this is the first amp that has generated such an immediate emotional experience in me!

Bryston Bi-Amp Option

I did something and I’m really happy with it! Bi-Amping my Bryston Trim T10 speakers with a Bryston 4B3 on the Bass and a 3B3 on the Mid/Tweets One of the advantages of our new crossover in all our T10 speakers is you can use 1 or 2 or 3 amps or go ‘Active’ at any time simply by swapping out the crossover module…

France Vs UK: A Battle Of Integrated Amps

What do you get for your money? Let’s take a look. Atoll of France spends its money where it really matters- in DUAL large transformers and a big load of filter capacitance. By spending money on the heart of the amplifier Atoll delivers a more weighty, muscular and dynamic sound! Further, Atoll runs MATCHED MOSFET output transistors which sound smoother than unmatched…

One Box Comparison

The ONE BOX solution can be appealing. That would be… a streaming integrated amp. Let’s take a look at the best candidates. We recommend Atoll from France. These boys deliver much more hearty sound than their wattage ratings would indicate due to massive DUAL transformers and high value power supply caps. The sound is super smooth due to MATCHED output transistors. You…

Bryston Duo Impresses

I had a demo of a BR-20/4B3 combination with Sonus Faber speakers with a pal today. We were both absolutely amazed to hear CD quality recordings that actually sounded better than vinyl in an A/B comparison. The salesman quickly noticed on to how impressed we were so I got the full Glen Garry/ Glenn Ross SMS sales bombarment after the demo. The Dutchies know how to close a deal!I think I probably will buy one and the leave the old record collection as a room decoration…
