Bryston Mini A $1665 Per Pair
(15.5h, 8.5w, 8.25d, 87 dB, 4 ohms, Black, Walnut or Boston Cherry)
Why does Bryston’s small (not tiny) speaker sound so large and powerful? After all, there are plenty of speakers about this size and price that sound respectable- but have little bass.
What separates Bryston musically from its price class is its substantial bass and Steinway smooth middle/upper demeanor.
If you want strong bass from a small speaker profile, please listen to Bryston’s Mini A.
Three Way
Yep, it helps a lot! The Mini A is a 3-way! Most of its competitors are 2-ways made half way around the world.
Bryston drivers are made of a contiguous Aluminum or Titanium material. Most of its competitors use one material as a base structure, and then have another material glued on to it to make it stronger. These sandwich materials are advertised as if they are the best way to fly. But they’re not. It is swimming with your boots on. They’re not as nimble.
Many speaker companies BRAG about buying drivers from various vendors because they’re reasonably well thought of. That’s fine. But if you can custom create your own, for your specific design brief, and build them in North America to exacting standards, that’s a big advantage over buying SKU’s out of a bin from a vendor that has no idea of what you’re trying to do. It’s just widgets to them.
Woofer
Mini A uses a 6.5” cast frame, Anodized Aluminum woofer. It is made by Bryston in its own house in Canada. They don’t buy it from a vendor. Having a dedicated woofer that doesn’t have to run all the way up to meet the tweeter gives Mini A much more muscle than a 2-way.
Midrange
Mini A uses a 3.5” cast frame, Anodized Aluminum midrange driver. It is made by Bryston in its own house in Canada. They don’t buy it from a vendor. Having a dedicated midrange driver purveys voices more beautifully than running a 2-way at this price range. It frees up the woofer to go DEEPER. It frees up the tweeter to be more airy and spacious.
Tweeter
Mini A uses a 1” Titanium tweeter, also made by Bryston in its own house in Canada. The tweeter sounds open but remains smooth. It takes high levels of power as well.
Rigid – Braced Cabinet Design
Bryston cabinets are made from Canadian Rangerwood which is more dense than generic MDF. The cabinet is braced within to make it stronger than a simple box. The cabinet is not a traditional rectangular design. It has a unique shape to TUNE the cabinet to a deeper pitch than a shoe box will allow.
Crossover
Bryston crossovers use high quality parts and are essential for blending the speakers seamlessly.
Do You Need A Tower?
Any tower in this price range is a hollow box from China. It will have a flimsy cabinet and ring. The drivers will be paper or plastic and won’t be nearly as TOUGH as Brystons. You’ll hear that Mini A can provide deeper and/or more tuneful bass than any similarly priced tower. Don’t hold it against Mini A that it is SMALL.
Warranty
Bryston has a 20 year warranty! Yes, TWENTY. The other guys are typically 3. Some are 5.
Some are ONE.
