Axiom 44 Series

Since the Bryston / Axiom merger many years ago, Axiom has revised its speaker line to what they call the “Performance 44 Series.”

The 44s reflect a new focus that deserves serious attention because the speakers are conspicuously PHENOMENAL for the prices they cover.

The 44s have three towers in particular that will knock your socks off. I use this term because, while the midrange and top end are smooth (as opposed to bright), it is the all important bass region where the 44s step ahead of their competitors.

The bass performance of M60, M80 and M100 absolutely spank their Chinese built competitors at similar money.

Axiom specs their performance within 3dB. Hence the bass frequencies claimed are claimed from actual measurements, not pipe dreams from the advertising department.

M60 Boston Cherry

Three Towers

M60, $2000 Per Pair, 37Hz-20k

M80

M80, $2500 Per Pair, 34Hz-20k

M100, $3000 Per Pair, 31Hz-20k

M100

You’ll discover Chinese built speakers like B&Ws and Monitor Audios for $6k barely go below 50Hz. Not only do the Axioms go DEEPER, they sound much heavier in the process. This level of performance on the 44 Series is due to a hundred and one details. Ian Colquhoun of Bryston/Axiom explains:

“The Performance 44 Series is unique in its design philosophy. Remove everything that costs extra money but has no audible benefit. This is different from creating a value line where it is a cost benefit compromise. The idea was to not sacrifice anything that effected the performance; only remove the things that have no audible benefit. Then there are the things that have a benefit but that same benefit can be achieved in a more cost effective way. The basket redesign is one of these details. Our challenge was to figure out how to make a stamped basket that performed like a cast basket. In order to achieve this, we looked at things like the gauge of steel used and how to roll the edges in such a way to add strength. The result is a stamped basket that has all the performance benefits of a cast basket without adding all the extra cost.”

M60 & M80 utilize the new 44 stamped technology. M100 uses the full bore cast design and is a true heavyweight for only $3k per pair!
