Black Velvet Cables
Theres a great wide world of interconnect cables out there. Why do we need
one more? We need one more because nobody is doing quite what is being done with the Black
Velvet!
There are zillions of high end interconnects. But the truth is, after you strip
away all of the pseudo science, the vast majority of these cables sound bright and harsh. Theyre sold under the
guise that they offer more information. When you
listen to these cables on high end speakers with resolving electronics, they typically
sizzle. They skew everything HOT. Many expensive cables are not musical.
The Black Velvet is a fairly priced cable that has no bite and is safe to use with
your system! Black Velvets are 100% Shielded
Black Velvet does not make unshielded cables. Unshielded cables dont reject
RFI as effectively as shielded cables do, and invariably they contribute an unmusical
sonic edge, sometimes razor sharp, into your system.
RFI steals power from your system and wastes it into ultrasonic frequencies. Even
if you dont hear the tell-tale RFI characteristics of snap, crackle or pop, RFI can
still put its sonic signature on your system- that glaring haze weve all heard in
some of the most expensive rigs out there!
We have no tolerance for RFI and want to keep it out of your system. Black Velvet
uses a 100% shield in its cables. We dont mean that they use a braid that covers most of the signal carrier. They use a spiral
wound shield that covers 100% of the carrying conductors. RFI cant sneak in. OFC Cable
Black Velvet uses shielded, twisted pair cable. The wire is OFC (OxygenFreeCopper).
This choice provides excellent high frequency response, keeps capacitance low, and allows
you to run long lengths of cable.
Conductor size is .4mm, Flex Life is 14,500 cycles, Tensile Strength is 657N. Due
to its smooth, open sound and RFI rejection characteristics, Black Velvet cable is used in
many high end recording studios as microphone cable. Theres a good chance the CD
youre listening to started its life going from the mic to the board via this cable! Amp Saving Connectors
Most of the audiophile cables out there feature stiff, brittle connectors. They
typically work if you fastidiously affix them to your equipment and dont mess with them. But they often cause
problems if youre less than very careful about it, or if you change your cables
during listening sessions to compare various products with friends.
BV uses Gold Plated Neutrik Make & Break connectors. They Make contact first
and Break contact last. The result is that you can connect/disconnect components, even
while theyre on.
We always recommend turning the power amp off when changing connections. We always
recommend turning the preamp volume all the way down when changing connections. Having
said that
people often get in a rush and arent as careful as they should be.
Many a fuse or tweeter has been launched under such circumstances! With the connectors BV
uses, great sound and safety are assured. Silver Solder- ROHS
Most cables are soldered up in mass production facilities in the Far East, using
the cheapest {impure} solder they can buy. Black Velvet is hand built using Silver Solder
to ensure the best possible signal transfer. Products: Unbalanced Interconnects
Unbalanced interconnects use the Amp Saving Connectors described above. We offer
them in the standard lengths listed here. The number indicates the length in FEET
(were proudly American). We will custom make different lengths for your specific
application if you like. BV-2 $ 150 BV-3 $150 BV-6 $150 BV-15 $200 BV-20 $225 Balanced Interconnects
Balanced interconnects use the same technology above, but with high quality,
Neutrik XLR connections. BV-2XLR $150 BV-3XLR $150 BV-6XLR $150 BV-15XLR $200 BV-20XLR $225 BV-30XLR $250 BV-40XLR $275 BV-50XLR $300 Black Velvet Cables Available through Audio Emporium 8766 N. Deerwood Dr. Brown Deer, Wi. 53092 414-354-5082 Open Tue, Wed, Thurs, Fri
